The Finnish Presidency presents its priorities to the sport movement

  • EuropeActive, European Council, Presidency, Finland

On Wednesday July 10th, the Finnish Presidency has invited key stakeholders of the European Sport and physical activity sector to present their priorities for the coming 6 months. Next to combatting corruption and safeguarding children in sport, the coordination of the EU’s position on anti-doping in the light of the WADA’s 5th world conference will be a central topic.

In addition, the Presidency will also promote the concept and understanding of the economy of wellbeing. They rightfully point out that there is not enough emphasis on preventive health systems. It is always better to prevent than cure. Being physically active is a key pillar of these preventive systems by helping inactive Europeans to become active we can increase their wellbeing and quality of life, whilst at the same time saving on curative healthcare costs.

EuropeActive works daily to make more people more active more often. One practical example of how we do this is the Let’s #BEACTIVE project, were we try to reach thousands of inactive European adults and help them to take on an active lifestyle. EuropeActive is eager to work together with the Finnish Presidency to help them reach their goals.
