A healthy lifestyle includes a healthy diet, regular physical activity, mental wellbeing and drug abstinence. The European Commission recognised the need for a holistic approach to promote healthy lifestyles with the Tartu call for a healthy lifestyle, launched by Commissioners Tibor Navracsics (Education, Culture, Youth and Sport), Vytenis Andrikiukaitis (Health and Food Safety) and Phil Hogan (Agriculture and Rural Development) in 2017.
We highly welcome DG EAC’s recent efforts to establish a new inter-service group on the promotion of healthy lifestyles. The group met for the first time on 18th January 2019 to coordinate actions to promote healthy lifestyles and related funding. This initiative contributes to the response to the Tartu call for a healthy lifestyle.
Already during the EU Sport Forum 2018, EuropeActive’s president Sir Graham Watson called for a coordinated approach across the participating DGs: EAC, SANTE and AGRI. He suggested a PACT – a Physical Activity Coordination Team - to work across the Commission to ensure that every policy decision, every recommendation, every draft Directive from every Directorate includes proper consideration of the impact of the measure on healthy lifestyles.
