“Bilingualism makes you aware that there are different perspectives out there and it makes you more flexible in adopting those perspectives”, says Athanasopoulos, a researcher of Lancaster University in UK. According to his study, different languages can provide us another vision about a specific topic. By asking the same question to two different language speakers, he noted in the answer a slightly different perception of the same theme between the two languages.
This study threaten the 60’s Noam Chomsky theory, famous for stating that a language doesn’t influence our way of thinking. In accordance with this new linguistic understanding, we may say that we are capable of seeing the world in new ways, as a second language literally gives the brain more neural connections to work with.
