Seminar on sport and physical activity at the workplace in Vienna

  • Sport & Physical Activity Seminar

On Monday December 10th, EuropeActive participated in the seminar on sport and physical activity at the workplace in Vienna, organised by the Austrian presidency of the council of the European Union.

Ms. Spindler-Oswald, representing the Austrian presidency, opened the seminar and reiterated the importance of physical activity promotion to the Austrian presidency. Yves Le Lostecque, Head of the sport unit with the European Commission, informed the partners of all the work the Commission has done in the field of activity promotion and the challenges ahead. A whole range of speakers gave their opinions and insights on how to promote physical activity at the workplace. One of the key points was that not only physical inactivity as a whole is a problem, but sedentarism as well. People who are physically active can still be sitting too much. Therefore it is crucial that physical activity is incorporated in everyone’s daily working routine.

It’s clear that that physical activity at the work place has a tremendous potential of increasing people health, both physically and mentally. Employees and employers are becoming more aware of the importance of physical activity at the workplace, but a lot of work remains to be done.
