Study shows that connected runners run farther and faster

A new article published in Nature Communications described how runners connected through APPs or social network influenced each other’s training. The researchers found that if one person ran an extra kilometre on any given day, his or her friends would run an additional 0.3 kilometres, on average, the same day.

The digital technology has a more and more impact on fitness, through mobile applications, wearable tracking devices and online gyms. For example, as part of the European Week of Sport, the European Commission sets up the #BEACTIVE Connected Run. After creating a team with colleagues or friends and connected with the usual running or walking application or GPS, the apps tracks the number of kilometres per team and allows teams to challenge between each other in all EU Member States!
