On Wednesday 1st July, Germany took over the six-month Presidency of the Council of the European Union. With the very symbolic motto “Together for Europe’s recovery”, overcoming the current COVID-19 pandemic is a key focus for the German Presidency. Germany is also committed to reach a swift agreement on the recovery fund and a rapid adoption of the Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF).
As other key questions are to be answered and issues to be addressed, Germany intends to make progress on climate protection through the European Green Deal, as well as economic and social digitalisation.
German priorities for the presidency:

As stated in the official presidency website, “only if we contain the virus sustainably, invest in the European economy, exploit our innovation potential and strengthen social cohesion, can the European Union and its member states effectively and effectively overcome the crisis. its goal: Europe should become stronger, fairer and more sustainable.”
