The European Vocational Skills Week is an annual event aiming to increase awareness surrounding  vocational education and training (VET), and is an opportunity to exchange information and good practice across Europe.

The fifth edition of the EVSW taking place from November 9th to 13th, was a 100% online event organised by the European Commission in cooperation with the German Presidency of the Council of the European Union. The theme was VET for Green and Digital Transitions, in line with the Commission priorities of a “European Green Deal” and a “Europe fit for the digital age”.

The ambitious, new “Pact for Skills” was launched by European Commissioner for Jobs and Social Rights, Nicolas Schmit. The Pact aims to provide more and strengthen up- and reskilling opportunities for the European workforce, with the key principles of lifelong learning, strong skills partnerships, monitoring of skills supply and needs, as well as gender equality and equal opportunities.

EuropeActive was, once again an official partner of the EVSW – organising the third (digital) meeting of the Sector Skills Alliance for Active Leisure on November 10th. The meeting featured insightful and informative discussions around the impact of Covid-19 on the fitness and outdoors sectors, both forming the Active Leisure sector. Specifically, the consortium presented the new skills that are required for fitness and outdoors professionals to respond to the new needs of customers and sector as a consequence of this pandemic.

EuropeActive in the frame of the European Vocational Skills Week, has also oragnised the International Standards Meeting 2020, is taking place online on November 19th.
