The European Commission has started the consultation process for the Europe’s Beating cancer plan. Till May 7th individual citizens and organisations are invited to give input on the European Commission’s flagship initiative to combat cancer.
As mentioned by both the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen and the Commissioner for public health, Stella Kyriakides, during the launch of the consultation process, physical activity has an important role to play in the fight against cancer. Evidence suggests that being physically active helps preventing cancer, improves cancer treatment, and increases the quality of life of survivors.
The important role of physical activity is being underwritten by the World Health Organisation, who stresses the importance of being physically active in everyday life and to limit the time spend sitting, in the WHO - Code against cancer. And being more physically active is also a key recommendation of the World Cancer Research Fund in its quest to help reduce the prevalence of cancer cases.
It is important that the European Commission also acknowledges the importance of physical activity in its Europe’s Beating Cancer plan. You can participate in the consultation and stress the importance by filling the questionnaire here.
