EuropeActive joins the celebration for the Europe Day 2019. The occasion marks the anniversary of the Schuman Declaration - 9 May 1950. The declaration proposed the pooling of French and West German coal and steel industries, leading to the creation of the European Coal and Steel Community, the first European Community, established in 1952.
To celebrate Europe Day, the EU Institutions opened their doors in Brussels on 4th May, 9th May in Luxembourg and 19th in Strasbourg. The Open Day is a unique opportunity to discover how the EU institutions affect the daily life of all EU citizins.
Through organised visits, debates, concerts and other events, Europe Day attracts every year thousands of people of all ages and aims at raising awareness for the European Union. Local EU offices in the rest of the continent and all over the world will also organise various activities and events.
This year the theme of the open day is “choosing your future”, given the upcoming European elections on 23-26 May in all Member States. In this regard, the EU has launched a campaign “this time I’m voting” to encourage a higher voter turnout at the European Elections.
