On 23 and 24 May, partners of the “Active Ageing Communities” project gathered in Rome for the 4th transnational meeting. The event was hosted by our Italian National Association Partner ANIF in its headquarters located in the Forum Sport Center.

This meeting was a crucial step in the life of the project to get a first overview of the data collected by the 18 participating clubs in 6 countries (the Czech Republic, Finland, Greece, Ireland, Italy, and Portugal). A preliminary analysis of these data showed promising results in terms of health-enhancing physical activity, retention, social inclusion, and well-being.

Partners briefly addressed the impact of COVID-19 on the programme implementation and reviewed the interviews of fitness staff and participants before discussing the structure and content of the two last Intellectual Outputs of the project, the final evaluation report and good practice guide.

The next events of the project were scheduled. The Final Conference will be held in Brussels on 6 October. It will be a unique occasion to disseminate the methodology, research results and project outcomes at the European level and explore future project collaborations. In the weeks following the conference, each national association will organise a national seminar to promote the project outcomes at the national level and involve more fitness clubs and older adults in a similar community-based programme in the coming years.
