SATS’ vision is to make people healthier and happier. This is achieved through a wide range of products and services designed to improve public health. During a normal year, we facilitate around 40 million workouts in our clubs. The effect of all these workouts is 8,000 quality adjusted life-years (QALYs), meaning our members put in a great effort to live better for a longer time. Socio-economically, this translates into an impressive NOK 11 billion in socio-economic welfare gain.

However, during the corona pandemic, SATS has, as our peers near and far, had to temporarily close our clubs. Some members have succeeded in keeping active, but the overall picture shows a significantly increased inactivity level. Our industry has an important responsibility but also a great opportunity to reverse this trend and continue to improve public health.

The pandemic has forced the entire industry to rethink how we do things. For SATS, it was important from day 1 to keep a dual focus – managing the crisis in the short term, while at the same time position us selves for further growth. The crisis management has been dominated by taking care of our almost 9,000 dedicated employees, keeping our members active and controlling costs and liquidity.

In parallel with these short-term focus areas, we have made sure to use the opportunity to lay the foundation for future growth. We truly believe the megatrend around health and fitness has been strengthened during the pandemic, and that the demand for our products and services will increase. Hence, we are accelerating both our club expansion and digital development.

We experienced a 400% increase in digital workouts through the SATS platform in 2020 compared to 2019. This increase was naturally driven by corona and club closures but was enabled by several years of building up a strong internal technology team, strengthening our digital capabilities. Going forward, we will continue the development, launching new digital products on the SATS platform and further improve our operations and sales. Additionally, we will launch a new digital home training offering, unlike anything seen in the Nordics before – Mentra by SATS. This product will combine curated and live content with outstanding coaches and community circles, all presented through a fitness mirror.

We are ready to help people back on the activity track, both in our clubs and in their living rooms.
