John Treharne, Founder and Chair, The Gym Group and EuropeActive Board Member shares his thoughts on the fitness consumer behaviour as we move into 2023:

"As we head into one of the busiest times of the year for our sector, these latest UK data insights help us to understand the impact of consumer behaviours on the fitness industry, against the backdrop of an uncertain financial environment. These insights support the view that price remains a key purchase decision driver and many consumers will choose to trade down their spending and seek even more value for their money.

Whilst most household budgets continue to feel squeezed, it is reassuring that in this post-pandemic era, health and wellness remains a protected category of spend as many consumers want to prioritise exercise to support their physical and mental health. It has been another busy year for those working in leisure and fitness, as many adapt and flex to the needs of their customers and their businesses. I hope 2023 will bring some stability and growth across the industry.”
