On 4-5 May 2022, the EU Health Policy Platform (HPP) hosted its Awards and Annual meeting. The HPP is an online platform hosted by DG SANTE to enable civil society organisations and member states to participate in networks on various topics, from the healthcare workforce to disease prevention.

For the 2021 edition of the awards, the Commission rewarded initiatives by NGOs, institutions and communities focusing on cancer prevention in young people as well as on alleviating the mental health impact of the pandemic. Among the shortlisted and winning initiatives, several had as their aim the promotion of healthy lifestyles to prevent cancer and foster better mental health.

On the second day, the annual meeting of the platform took place, during which the three thematic networks for 2021-2022 presented their final statements. This year’s themes focused on climate and health education in Europe, integrated nutrition in cancer care, and towards an inclusive pharmaceutical strategy for the EU. Subsequently, there was an open discussion regarding expectations for next year, during which several participants highlighted the importance of further working on prevention and healthy lifestyles. The selected topics for 2022-2023 will be announced later this year.
