Last month, the 6th European Week of Sport took place from the 23rd- 30th September with the goal of getting as many Europeans as possible to be active and adopt healthier lifestyles. The European Fitness sector has been instrumental in the success of the campaign by reaching over 30 million Europeans with the #BEACTIVE message and activating almost 1,5 million people through thousands of events across the continent.

With the current Covid-19 restrictions and limitations, it is the creativeness, resourcefulness and determination of our partners and stakeholder that has made a real difference. As with the successful #BEACTIVE HOUR campaign in May, a whole range of on-line, in person and hybrid events were organized to make being physically active accessible to everyone.

A significant part of our contribution was through the EU-funded Projects National Fitness Day for Europe and Let’s #BEACTIVE and their incredible partners who helped to organize events all around their countries. This was an especially exciting experience for the four non-EU partners, TAKT, GeorgiaActive, UkraineActive and NGO Energija, as they held their first ever National Fitness Day and more than rose to the occasion (during a pandemic, no less), with many events taking place in their respective countries.

Additionally, our support for the European Week of Sport came through EREPS Ambassador George Xiros, who took a central role in the #BeActive Night and made us all proud by leading a digital workout with 7 Olympic athletes connected from different European capitals.

EuropeActive is extremely proud of the work our partners and National Associations have put in to support the European Week of Sport and the #BeActive message with the ultimate goal of getting more people, more active, more often.
