On Tuesday 3 May, the European Commission hosted the 5th meeting of the Expert Group on Strengthening the recovery and the crisis resilience of the sport sector during and in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic.  
 
The first part of the meeting was dedicated to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on elite sport, with presentations from representative of MOTO GP, EU athletes, the Croation Gymnastics Federations and the Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme expanding on how the pandemic has impacted their work and how they are experiencing the pandemic recovery.  
 
During the final part of the meeting, EuropeActive was invited to present on the recovery of the fitness and physical activity sector. Lukas Declercq, EuropeActive’s EU & Public Affairs Director shared the key facts and figures from the latest European Health and Fitness Market Report with the experts from the EU Member States and expanded on the exceedingly difficult economic environment which is jeopardizing the continued recovery from the pandemic.  
 
The Expert Group will continue its work on the challenges presented in the aftermath of the pandemic when it meets again in the 2nd half of the year.
