The first meeting of the Sector Skills Alliance for Fitness and Physical Activity took place on 27th October. The Sector Skills Alliance (SSA) is an advisory group formed by industry stakeholders, which broadens the scope of, and thus replaces, the previous SSA for Active Leisure (2016-2021). This new body envisages a wider range of stakeholders, organisations, and strategic partners from across the Fitness and Physical Activity sector cooperating on the promotion of healthy and active lifestyles.
Its objectives are to identify sector-specific labour market needs, gather relevant labour market intelligence and foresight, and support the Fitness and Physical Activity sector in addressing its most pressing challenges.
Chaired by Jennifer Halsall-de Wit (COO, Women in Fitness), this first meeting was a unique occasion to gather key representatives from independent fitness professionals and employer organisations, members of education and training systems, and other key actors, with the aim of improving cooperation and coordination at the European level for the benefit of the sector.
Through participatory breakout sessions and insightful presentations from several attendees, the meeting stimulated fruitful exchanges in the fields of sectoral skills trends and workforce issues. Its outcomes will substantially contribute to formulating EuropeActive’s future skills strategy to ensure the on-going development and professionalisation of the European Fitness and Physical Activity Sector workforce.
