On Thursday, 19 November EuropeActive will host its annual International Standards Meeting (ISM), our main event for training providers, employers, practitioners and other key stakeholders in the fitness and wellness industry, which has become one of the most important vocational education events in Europe.
This year’s ISM will be presented by Bryan K. O’Rourke (@bryankorourke), a leading industry expert with over thirty years’ experience, and feature participants from across Europe with a diverse range of expertise in the industry who will provide incredible and exciting insights into the sector.
Due to COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 ISM will be hosted fully online, and through this years’ theme ‘facing the new normal together’, will reflect the fact that Covid-19 has posed significant and continuing challenges across the fitness and physical activity industry. This crisis has forced many education providers to rethink their delivery models, while the workforce in the sector has faced either significant reductions in income, challenges in adjusting their skills to an increasingly digital world and in many cases redundancy.
As Julian Berriman, Director of EuropeActive’s Professional Standards Committee, commented, ‘It is a real shame that we will not get to meet all our friends from the educational and wider fitness community this year but there will be great value in the virtual ISM. We face demanding times, but this is also a time of great resourcefulness and innovation in the sector. Together we can seize the moment, maximise the opportunities thrown up by the present crisis and emerge to a brighter and more prosperous future.’
The ISM will discuss the challenges we all face but will also look to the future and the opportunities that are appearing out of adversity. The education programmes most needed to support the workforce in the new normal, how these programmes can be delivered and how we can best support the preventative health solution our industry represents.
