Today is March 8: International Women’s Day, a good day to reflect. How are we working towards a balance in female/male representation and equal fitness opportunities in the world?

EREPS Women

Let’s start with some statistics: 41% of the members of our European Register of Exercise Professionals (EREPS) are female. In absolute numbers, Denmark (!) has the most EREPS qualified female fitness professionals, followed by Italy, Sweden, Spain and Germany. The biggest female/male imbalance in the Pilates Qualification-group: 83% is female here.

Saudi Vision 2030

EuropeActive have provided a consultation service to the Saudi Leadership Development Institute in setting up occupational standards for fitness professionals in Saudi Arabia. The aim of the Saudi fitness occupational standards is to support the Saudi Vision 2030 theme of a “Vibrant Society with Fulfilling Lives”. Vision 2030 sets clear targets to increase the ratio of individuals exercising at least once a week from 13% of the population to 40% and increasing women’s participation in the workforce from 22% to 30%. EuropeActive supports any such initiative aimed at supporting women to thrive in the worldwide fitness sector.

WIFA Association

Also worth the spotlight today, is the ‘Women in Fitness Association’. This is the global not-for-profit association bringing together women in the fitness industry. Their vision is that every woman professionally representing the fitness industry can find her place and rise to her fullest potential.
